Surround by pine trees, this lovely historic hotel lies to the north of Port de Pollença in a quiet spot on the water’s edge with a private jetty, a spa and health club, outdoor pool and seafront dining. The views across the bay are breathtaking, making it an idyllic spot for breakfast, lunch or an aperitif before dinner.
The hotel first opened in 1929 and has welcomed many illustrious guests over the years including, Agatha Christie, and more recently, Annie Lennox. I loved the sense of history the hotel exudes. And I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a stay here.
The highlight of my stay was a day out on the hotel’s yacht, sailing around the island and swimming from the boat.
Hotel Illa d’Or is about a 45-minute transfer from Palma airport. It’s perfect for a romantic break for two and makes a great base from which to explore the north of Mallorca.
Aparthotel Flora | Mid-range self-catering apartments

When I decided to visit Mallorca with three of my friends, we started searching for a quiet location and a suitable hotel comfortable for all of us. Being on a budget, we stumbled upon Apart Hotel Flora, in Port de Pollença, which offers apartments instead of simple hotel rooms. Located just a couple of hundred metres from the seashore and the promenade, Aparthotel Flora is close to many restaurants, with a supermarket just across the street. Being two roads up from seafront makes the hotel very quiet.
There is a direct shuttle from the airport in Palma that for only 10 euros drops you off in front of the hotel and also picks you up three hours before your flight departs.
The complex has its own restaurant, bar, and a pool. The apartments are spacious and can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Our apartment had two rooms, its own kitchen and a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool. A cleaning lady came in every day, except for Sunday.
Aparthotel Flora is a great budget choice for families or friends travelling together.
Son Brull Hotel & Spa | Boutique hotel

Son Brull is one of the best boutique hotels on Mallorca, and it’s beautifully situated in the countryside near Pollença in the northeastern part of the island. It’s a luxury 5-star hotel that combines a countryside setting with glamour and extravagant food.
The hotel is located by the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, and here you can expect a relaxing holiday close to nature with a touch of modern luxury. The staff are very friendly, and the rooms are elegantly decorated as well. They also have a dedicated spa area where you can enjoy various treatments and spoil yourself. We particularly loved the main pool area with views through the trees to the hills. There are now also villas with private pools.
Son Brull is ideal for families, couples or friends that want a peaceful experience in Mallorca or a weekend getaway from the lively streets of Palma.
The location is ideal for exploring the northern part of Mallorca as well, and if you want to visit one of the loveliest beaches on the island, it’s just a 19 minutes’ drive to Alcudia beach.
It’s a five-minute drive to Pollença, so you’re close to everything that you could wish for while enjoying this rural sanctuary in peaceful surroundings away from the tourist resorts.
I recommend that you rent a car to get there, but it’s also possible to arrange airport transfers and taxis to nearby attractions such as Pollença.

Where to stay in Sóller, Mallorca Hostel Sóller | Boutique hostel | Great value

Hostel Sóller is not just your run of the mill hostel. It is a superb, boutique hostel, offering a beautiful escape surrounded by the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in Mallorca. It is centrally located in Sóller, just a 3-minute walk to the main square, trolley to the beach, and train station. While the hostel operates as a youth hostel, all age ranges can stay here in private rooms or dorms.
The homemade breakfast, outdoor patio, and community kitchen make this the perfect place to meet other travellers and find out what to explore next. While relaxing in the courtyard, I found travellers who wanted to share a car rental to explore the surrounding towns.
The beach is only a fifteen-minute scenic trolley ride away, where you can take boat tours that can be booked at the hostel’s reception.
This is the best budget option in Sóller by far and ideal for solo travellers.
Where to stay on the east coast of Mallorca Park Hyatt Mallorca | 5-star luxury hotel
– by Elise Armitage, What The Fab

The Park Hyatt Mallorca is a luxury resort in the northeast of Mallorca, overlooking the stunning Canyamel Valley. About an hour’s drive from Palma airport, the area is quiet and peaceful, the rooms are all very spacious, and the service throughout the hotel is impeccable. This luxury hotel opened in 2016 and is the first Park Hyatt resort in Europe.
The resort feels like a traditional Mallorquín hilltop village, with its own square, three different restaurants, and a tapas bar, spa and a majestic pool. Other facilities include a fitness suite, indoor pool, tennis courts and a ballroom. What’s more, the resort is just five minutes from the beach and within a 15-minute drive to four 18 hole golf courses (free golf shuttle service available).
The Park Hyatt Mallorca is the perfect place to stay for a romantic couple’s getaway, wedding, business meeting or conference. The gorgeous grounds, delicious food options, and fabulous service will all make you never want to leave this relaxing and beautiful resort.
Hotel Atolon | Mid-range hotel

Check flights, Son Brull hotel & Spa reviews, prices and availability on Trip Advisor | Booking.com | Agoda
This lovely hotel is located in Cala Bona, a beautiful coastal town, known for being family-friendly and about an hour’s drive from the airport. Hotel Atolon is a mid-range budget hotel that isn’t too hard on the pocket and perfect for couples, families, friends, and solo travellers.
Hotel Atolon is located right by the sea with beautiful coastal views. The nearest beach is just a short walk away, and there are lots of great restaurants on your doorstep. Breakfast is included, and we found it quite delicious! There is a small pool however we didn’t get much chance to hang out there as we were visiting many of Mallorca‘s gorgeous beaches.
A few things to note about this hotel: there are two separate buildings and your hotel room may be across the street from the main building farther away from the sea. Also, there is no parking at the hotel, so if you rent a car (I would recommend you do), you will have to find street parking nearby.
Protur Sa Coma Playa Hotel & Spa | Mid-range hotel
by Maureen, Life on the Mediterranean

One hotel I highly recommend is the Protur Sa Coma Playa hotel on Mallorca’s east coast. This 4-star hotel is a mid-range, modern hotel that is truly underrated. It’s adjacent to the Protur Biomar Spa and the 5-star sister hotel, the Protur Biomar Gran Hotel and Spa. We were delighted to discover that you can use the services in the 5-star while staying in the 4-star. And the prices are very reasonable.
The good-sized rooms all have terraces, a stocked fridge, and great lighting, mirrors and a decent hairdryer in the bathroom.
The hotel offers a fantastic buffet for those on a half or full board packages, but there are four additional restaurants to choose offering Indian, Asian, and Italian cuisines, as well as a bistro. Further restaurants and shops are just outside the hotel.
There are a couple of pools: one for adults-only and one for all the family, and the clean, sandy beach is only a 10-minute walk away.
In front of the hotel is the Punta de n’Amer Nature Park, where you can hike along the seashore. And you can borrow bikes from the front desk to head toward the neighbouring villages of Cala Millor or S’Illot. They also have a Club Protur sports facility and can arrange for you to participate in almost any activity you wish.
The Protur Sa Coma Playa is located at Calle Eucaliptus in Sa Coma, about an hour to get there from Palma’s International Airport, and you can easily arrange private or shared transfers to the hotel.
Where to stay in the Bay of Palma, Mallorca
Brondo Architect Hotel | Boutique Hotel
by Fiona, London Unattached
Brondo Architect Hotel, in the heart of Palma, is a quirky and eclectic place. The building until recently was an architect’s studio and is still owned by the same firm of designers and architects. On a quiet back street close to the shops and bars of the city centre, it’s just a five-minute walk to the seafront and fifteen minutes from the airport and transfers to the hotel are easily arranged. The architectural influence is immediately apparent – some rooms come with open stairs to their own roof terraces, all have designer fittings and individual styling that makes this place feel like a home from home. You can even stay in a room with a full-sized grand piano and four poster bed.
There’s a large informal restaurant serving local dishes with a pretty, semi-covered terrace that is popular both with diners and those just wanting to relax. And there are plenty of little corners, terraces and public spaces with comfy chairs where you can curl up with a book. If you want a bit more exercise, there’s an open gym on the roof or you can hire one of the hotel’s bikes.
Great for couples or friends, there’s a grown-up hipster vibe to this place. It’s not a conventional luxury boutique hotel – and yet, it somehow manages to feel very special.
Bonsol Hotel Resort & Spa | Boutique hotel | Eco-friendly
by Kathryn, Travel With Kat
Book holidays from the UK with Classic Collection.
Tumbling down the hillside (with interconnecting tunnels under the roads), Hotel Bonsol manages to maintain an intimate atmosphere despite its relatively large size. I’ve stayed here twice; once on a press trip and then a second time on honeymoon. Yes! I loved it that much. Not only does Bonsol boast extremely high sustainability credentials, but they also have their own private beach and are within easy reach of the island’s capital Palma, not to mention the excellent service and friendly atmosphere.
There’s a vast range of facilities here too, including two swimming pools, two restaurants, free morning yoga classes, mini golf, tennis, an excellent spa and a private beach.
I’d recommend hiring a car to explore the surrounding countryside, beaches and villages, but if you don’t wish to drive, airport transfers are easily arranged and It’s a just short bus ride into Palma to discover the island’s capital.
Hotel Bon Sol is perfect for couples, families or a girl’s getaway.
Above: Bonsols’ breakfast room and year-round heated swimming pool – this is the smaller of the two pools. Below: Bonsol’s relaxation room with sauna, steam room and adjacent outdoor hot tub.
Zafiro Palace Palmanova | 5-star luxury hotel
by Ania, The Travelling Twins
Zafiro Palace Palmanova caters more for the five-star luxury market rather than beach life. In fact, it doesn’t have direct access to the beach. Come here for delicious food in several themed restaurants, the exclusive spa, gym, and a variety of pools.
Palmanova Beach and a great range of restaurants and shops are about 400 metres away. An easy walk, but far enough away to give hotel guests some seclusion from the noise and bustle. Plus, the capital, Palma de Mallorca and the airport are both just 30 minutes away.
As well as a variety of pools, including one for kids, with a bouncy slide and even an indoor heated pool, all ground floor rooms have access to semi-private swimming pools. And each of the apartments on the top floor has its own rooftop jacuzzi.
And did I mention the food? Everything we tried at Zafiro Palace Palmanova was divine, both in presentation and flavour. After an evening meal, you can enjoy live entertainment or chill out in the well-stocked bar.
Zafiro Palace Palmanova is perfect for a luxury break. It’s ideal for couples, but if you visit Mallorca with kids, they will be well cared for by the kids club team of dedicated entertainers.
